Website audit terms
The terms that apply when you book a website audit with designbox. They sit alongside our payment terms, terms of service and privacy policy.
1. Who these terms are between
These terms apply to the website audit sold at designbox.co.uk/website-audit/. They are between you, the person or business buying the audit, and Design Box Ltd, trading as designbox, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 10338371, VAT number GB305909405, registered at Gibraltar House, 539-543 London Rd, Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, SS0 9LJ.
They sit alongside our payment terms, terms of service and privacy policy. Where those documents conflict with these terms on the subject of the audit, these terms take precedence.
2. What you are buying
The website audit is a one-off, fixed-price service. It includes:
- An onboarding call of approximately 30 minutes before we begin.
- A review of one website carried out by our team, covering design and brand, user experience, conversion, functions and features, speed and Core Web Vitals, security, updates and plugin health, backups, SEO and accessibility basics.
- A written report, including a prioritised list of recommended work with estimated times.
- A completion call to talk through the findings and recommendations.
- Two hours of remedial work, carried out by us, on items agreed with you from the report.
The audit covers one website. Additional sites, subdomains or staging environments are quoted separately.
3. Platforms
We audit websites on any platform. The design, user experience, conversion, content, functionality, speed, SEO and accessibility findings apply whatever the site is built on.
The two hours of remedial work described in section 2 differ by platform. On WordPress and WooCommerce we carry the work out on your site directly. On Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow and bespoke systems our access is limited by the platform, so that time is spent instead on scoping what should happen next, which may include a rebuild, a migration or a specification your own developer can work from. We will tell you which applies before we begin.
Our ongoing care plans are separate from the audit and are available for WordPress and WooCommerce sites only, because they run on hosting we provide.
4. Price and payment
The audit is £250 excluding VAT, payable in full at the point of booking. Payment is taken by card and processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
A VAT receipt is issued automatically on payment. Our payment terms apply to this transaction.
The audit fee is not credited or discounted against any care plan, retainer or other service. It is a separate piece of work.
5. Timing
We aim to deliver the written report within two to three working days of receiving the access we need. That period begins when we have working access, not when payment is made.
Timings are targets, not guarantees. If something outside our control delays us, such as hosting downtime at your provider, we will tell you and agree a revised date.
6. Access, and what you confirm
To carry out the audit we need administrator access to the website, and ideally to its hosting. By booking you confirm that you own the website or are authorised by its owner to instruct this audit and to grant us that access.
If we do not receive workable access within 30 days of payment, we may treat the booking as complete and the fee as earned, having held time for you. We will contact you at least twice before doing so.
You remain responsible for your own backups. We take our own restore point before carrying out any remedial work.
7. How the work is carried out
The audit itself is read-only. We do not change anything on your website while reviewing it.
The two hours of remedial work take place after you have seen the report and agreed with us which items we should start with. Which items are covered is a matter of agreement between us, based on what can sensibly be done within the time.
If an item turns out to be larger than estimated, we will stop and tell you rather than run over. Time beyond the included two hours is charged at £100 an hour excluding VAT, or £80 an hour once you are on one of our care plans, and only with your prior approval.
8. What the audit is not
The audit is a professional opinion at a point in time. It is not a warranty, a certification, or a guarantee of any outcome.
In particular, we do not guarantee that the audit will identify every fault, that acting on it will improve your search rankings, traffic, conversion rate or revenue, or that your website will not subsequently be compromised. Websites change, plugins update, and third parties introduce faults we cannot foresee.
The audit is not a penetration test, a legal accessibility conformance audit, a formal security certification or a GDPR compliance assessment.
9. Your right to cancel
If you are buying as a consumer rather than for business purposes, you have the right to cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Because we begin work well within that period, when you book you expressly ask us to start during the cancellation period, and you acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once the service has been fully performed. If you cancel after we have started but before the service is complete, we will charge for the work carried out up to that point and refund the balance.
Business customers may cancel before we begin work. Once work has begun, the fee is non-refundable except where we have failed to deliver what is described in section 2.
10. Ownership and confidentiality
The report and the prioritised list are produced for you and are yours to use, keep and share with your own developers or suppliers. You may not resell them or present them as your own work to third parties commercially.
We keep what we learn about your website and your business confidential, and we expect the same of the methods and materials we share with you. We may refer to the fact that we carried out work for you, but we will not publish findings about your website without your written permission.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, our total liability arising out of the audit is limited to the fee you paid for it. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or any indirect or consequential loss.
We are not liable for faults that existed before we started, for the actions of your hosting provider or other suppliers, or for any change made to your website by anyone other than us.
12. Data protection
We process your personal data as set out in our privacy policy. Where we access personal data held on your website, we act as a processor on your instructions and only for the purpose of carrying out the audit and the agreed remedial work.
Access credentials you give us are stored securely and revoked or deleted once the work is complete. You are free to change them yourself at any point after we finish.
13. General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver of it.
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your audit is the version published on the day you booked.
