Why people move

Sound familiar?

Most migrations start with one of these. If you are nodding along to two or more, it is probably time.
“It is slow, and it keeps dropping out”

Cheap shared hosting or a bloated builder, usually both. Better hosting and a cleaner build fix the speed and the wobble at the same time.

“I cannot edit my own site”

Your platform charges for changes, or the person who built it has moved on. Moving to WordPress puts you back in control.

“The agency has gone quiet”

Nobody answers, and you are not sure who owns the hosting or the domain. We can pick it up and get you access back.

“My fees keep going up”

Platform charges, app subscriptions and transaction fees stack up. We will show you what the alternative actually costs.

“I have outgrown the platform”

You need proper filtering, trade pricing or an integration your builder will not do. Time for something that scales.

“We are rebranding”

New name, new domain. This is the one where redirects matter most, and where DIY moves usually cost rankings.

Platforms

From wherever you are, to wherever suits you

Most moves we handle fall into one of these. If yours is not listed, it is almost certainly still doable.

Moving to
WordPressOur default for content led sites. You own it, you can edit it, and it will not fight your SEO.
WooCommerceFor shops that want control over checkout, content and costs.
ShopifyWhen you would rather someone else ran the plumbing and you just sold things.
Better hostingSame site, quicker home. UK hosting, real backups, sensible support.
What we move

Four kinds of move, one careful process

Whichever of these you need, the method is the same: map it, build it, test it, then switch when it is ready.
01
Platform migration

Moving to WordPress, WooCommerce or Shopify from wherever you are now. Pages, posts, images, forms and structure all come with you, not just the pages someone remembers.

02
Hosting migration

Same site, better home. Faster hosting, real backups and support that answers. DNS and email are handled as part of the job.

03
Ecommerce migration

Products, variants, customers, orders and reviews. Your shop keeps its history, so last year still compares to this year.

04
Rebuild and move

Where the old site is not worth carrying over, we design and build a new one, then bring across the content that still earns its place.

How it works

Nothing goes live until it is right

Typically one to four weeks, depending on size.
Step 01Scope and audit

We crawl the current site, list every URL, and agree what moves, what changes and what gets retired.

Step 02Build and test

The new setup is built on staging and tested properly. You see it working before anything changes publicly.

Step 03Launch with redirects

Every old URL points at its new home. We go live at a quiet time for your business and watch it closely.

Step 04Check and tidy

We monitor rankings, errors and speed for the weeks after, and fix anything that turns up.

Included as standard

Every migration includes all of this

No line items to argue over later. If it is needed to move your site safely, it is in the price we quote you.

What changes, what stays

Quicker afterwards, with nothing lost on the way

Your speed

Measured before and after with Core Web Vitals. A move should make the site quicker, and we show you the numbers.

Your uptime

The new setup is live and tested before the switch, and we go live out of hours. Visitors should not notice a thing.

Your rankings

Every URL mapped and redirected, so pages Google already knows keep their place. We hand you the redirect map at the end.

Your content

Pages, posts, images, PDFs and forms, not just the pages someone remembers. Nothing quietly gets left behind.

Your shop history

Orders, customers and reviews move with the products, so last year still compares to this year in your reporting.

Your email

DNS and email are planned into the move, so nothing stops arriving halfway through. We test send and receive before signing off.

FAQs

Website migration questions

Cannot see yours? Ask us on the form below and we will answer it straight.
Will my website be faster after the migration?
Usually yes, and for a lot of people that is the whole point of moving. We rebuild on hosting chosen for speed, compress the images, set caching up properly and measure Core Web Vitals before and after. If the site is slow because of how it is built rather than where it is hosted, we will tell you that before you spend anything.
Will the move help my SEO?
It should. Alongside the redirects, we tidy up URLs, headings, meta titles and descriptions, image alt text and structured data as the content moves across. A quicker, cleaner site is easier for Google to crawl, so the move protects what you have and gives you a better base to build on.
Will my Google rankings drop?
Not if the move is done properly. Rankings slip when old URLs are left to 404, so we map every address on your current site and point it at its new home. Small movements in the first fortnight are normal and usually settle.
Will my site go down?
No. We build and test on staging first, then switch at a quiet time for your business. Visitors carry on as normal.
How long does a migration take?
A small brochure site is usually a week or two. A larger site or a shop with thousands of products takes longer, mostly because of testing. You get a timeline once we have looked at the site.
Can you move my domain and email too?
Yes. DNS, domains and email are part of the job, planned so nothing stops arriving while the move happens.
What if I have lost access to the old site?
It happens more than you would think. We can usually work around it, and where we cannot we will help you get access back before anything starts.
Why is there no price on this page?
Because a fair price needs a look at the site first. Page count, platform, shop data and how tidy the current build is all change the work involved. Send the address over and we will scope it properly.

Website migration at designbox

designbox is a web design and digital marketing agency in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, and we run website migrations for businesses across the UK. Most people come to us because the site they have is slow, fragile or stuck on a platform they cannot edit. A migration is the chance to fix all three at once: the same content on faster hosting, in a cleaner build, with the search visibility you have already earned carried across intact. Our website migration service covers platform moves, host moves and domain changes. That includes Wix to WordPress, Squarespace to WordPress, Magento or BigCommerce to WooCommerce or Shopify, and straight host transfers where the build stays as it is and only the hosting improves. Whichever it is, the method does not change: crawl the current site, map every URL, rebuild on staging, test it properly, then switch out of hours.Moving a website without losing SEO comes down to detail. Every old address gets a 301 to its new home, titles, descriptions, image alt text and structured data move with the content, and internal links are rewritten rather than left pointing at the old site. We measure Core Web Vitals before and after, because a quicker site is easier to crawl and easier to buy from. If you want the search side pushed further after the move, that is SEO; if you want the new setup looked after, that is our hosting and care plan.We design and build everything in house, so the people mapping your redirects are the people who built the site. Send us your current address and we will look at what you have, tell you honestly whether a move is worth it, and give you a fixed price and a timeline before anything starts. If the site needs rethinking rather than relocating, start with website design instead.

Not sure what state the current site is in before you move it? A website audit goes through it properly first, so the move starts from a known position rather than a guess.
