The outcome

Convert browsers into buyers

Your customers make their minds up in seconds. Every store we build earns those seconds three ways: how it looks, how it sells, and how it runs.

The look

Designed to look the part

People judge a store the way they judge a shop window: instantly. We design ecommerce websites that make your products look worth every penny, with considered layouts, strong photography and a brand presence customers trust before they've read a word.

Nothing off the shelf, nothing that looks like a theme. Your store is designed from scratch around your products and your customers.

The look: a Quel Tap product page
The journey

Built to convert

Looking good gets a visitor's attention; a frictionless journey gets their order. We obsess over the path from landing page to payment: fast loading, clear navigation, honest product pages and a checkout that never gives anyone a reason to leave.

Watch the journey: land, browse, add to basket, pay. Seconds, not minutes.

The journey: browsing to checkout
The engine

A complete solution behind the scenes

The part your customers never see is the part that runs your business. We connect your store to the systems you already rely on, EPOS and stock sync, accounting, shipping and fulfilment, so an order placed online updates everything, everywhere, automatically.

One admin area for products, orders, stock and customers. Built just for your business, not bolted together from plugins.

Who it's for

Built around what you sell

From fashion to trade supplies, we design ecommerce websites around the way your industry buys, because a great fashion store and a great parts store are not the same site.

The process

How our ecommerce web design process works

Five clear stages from first call to life after launch. You'll always know what's happening, what's next and who's doing it.

1

Discovery

designbox ecommerce discovery stage of the process

Before anything gets designed, we get to know your business inside out, so every decision from here has a purpose.

  • Kick-off call to understand your goals, customers and competitors
  • Review of your existing site, what’s working and what isn’t
  • Sitemap agreed so we know exactly what we’re building
  • Project timeline confirmed with clear milestones
2

Design

designbox ecommerce design stage of the process

We create a design built around your brand and your customers. You'll see and approve everything before we write a single line of code.

  • Wireframes to map the customer journey through your store
  • Full visual design presented for your feedback
  • Two rounds of revisions included as standard
  • Final sign-off from you before we move to build
3

Build

designbox ecommerce build stage of the process

Our developers bring the approved design to life. Every ecommerce website we build is custom, fast and built to grow with your business.

  • Custom WooCommerce or Shopify build
  • Fully responsive across all devices
  • Payment gateway and third party integrations set up
  • Tested across browsers and devices before you see it
4

Handover and training

designbox ecommerce training stage of the process

Before we go live, we make sure you and your team are completely comfortable running the store. No technical knowledge needed.

  • Walkthrough of your new store on a staging link before launch
  • CMS training so your team can manage products, orders and content
  • Bespoke training videos provided for future reference
  • Any final amends completed before sign-off
5

Launch and beyond

designbox ecommerce launch stage of the process

Go-live is just the beginning. We handle the technical side of the launch and stay on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.

  • Pre-launch checklist completed in full
  • Redirects and SEO migration handled to protect your existing rankings
  • 30 days of post-launch support included as standard
  • Ongoing care plans to keep your store fast, secure and up to date
What you get

Everything you need to run your store

Your ecommerce website should make your life easier, not add to your to-do list. Every store comes with the tools to manage products, orders and customers yourself.

Shipping that works your way

Flat rate, free shipping, click and collect or carrier-calculated. Configured to match how you and your customers work.

Products and stock, easy to manage

Add, edit and organise products without technical knowledge. Stock updates automatically so you’re never caught short.

Orders and returns, all in one place

See every order as it comes in, process refunds and keep customers updated without switching systems.

Trade and B2B areas

A separate login for trade customers with exclusive pricing, products or terms. Retail and trade stay clean and separate.

A checkout customers actually enjoy

Fast, clear and built to reduce drop-off, designed around the moment a customer decides to buy.

Discounts and promotions

Run sales, create discount codes and set up offers from your dashboard, no developer needed.

Sales and product reporting

See what’s selling, what isn’t and where revenue comes from. Clear reports you can act on.

Upselling and cross-selling built in

Related products and upgrades suggested at the right moment. More value for customers, more revenue for you.

Search and filtering that finds it fast

Smart product search with live suggestions and filters, so customers reach the right product in seconds.

Reviews that sell for you

Product reviews collected automatically and displayed where they persuade, on product pages and in search.

Abandoned baskets, recovered

Automatic emails win back customers who almost bought. Some of the easiest revenue your store will ever make.

Customer accounts and wishlists

Saved details, order history and wishlists that bring customers back and make reordering effortless.

Payments your customers trust

Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Klarna, with multi-currency if you sell abroad.

Gift cards

Sell digital gift cards that bring new customers to your store and let happy ones spread the word.

Product bundles

Group products into bundles and kits that lift average order value and move more stock together.

Subscriptions and repeat orders

Let customers subscribe and save, turning one-off buyers into predictable monthly revenue.

Loyalty and rewards

Points, perks and referral rewards that give customers a reason to come back to you, not a marketplace.

Back-in-stock and pre-order alerts

Sold out doesn’t mean sale lost. Customers get notified the moment it’s back, and pre-orders capture demand early.

Live chat and WhatsApp

Answer the question that’s blocking the sale, right there on the product page. Chat where your customers already are.

Fast, secure and built to last

Speed scores your competitors will envy, SSL as standard and hosting that keeps your store up on your busiest day.

Feature spotlight

Ready for up and cross-selling in the cart

The cart is where buying decisions are sealed. Ours are designed to nudge order values up and drop-offs down, without ever getting in your customer's way.

  • Integrated free shipping progress bar that encourages one more item
  • Customers make changes right from the cart, no page reloads
  • Order bumps at the perfect moment to increase average order values
  • Discount codes applied directly, so offers never cause drop-off

Platforms and partners

At home on WooCommerce and Shopify

We build on the two platforms that power most of the world's online stores, and we're partners with both. We'll recommend the right one for your business honestly, based on your products, your team and how you want to grow.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce

Built on WordPress, endlessly flexible and ideal for large catalogues, trade areas and stores that need to work exactly your way. Most of our ecommerce builds live here.

Shopify

Shopify

Fast to launch, simple to run and brilliant for brands that want a lean, reliable store. We design and build Shopify stores that don’t look like a template.

Case studies

Real stores, real results

Every one of these started as a store that wasn't pulling its weight. Here's what changed, and what it did for the business.

Mermaids Swimwear

Mermaids Swimwear is a boutique retailer of high quality swimwear and holiday wear. The old storefront was holding the product back, so we rebuilt it and put a high-intent Google Ads strategy behind it to reach shoppers already ready to buy.

The combination is what made it work: a store that converts, and paid search pointed only at people close to purchasing. It returned 9.36 times the ad spend across the year, with revenue up 55%.

Power Hygiene

Power Hygiene lead the UK market in commercial and domestic cleaning supplies, with over 5,000 product lines. Their old store could not carry the scale of the operation, so we rebuilt it as a custom B2B platform designed around how trade buyers actually order.

The site is organised by industry as well as product, with recurring ordering, trade accounts and pricing built in. Search and paid work then took it further, including 264 mentions in Google AI overviews in a single month.

Quel Tap

AquaTaps sell instant boiling and filtered water taps direct to homeowners. Partway through the project a trademark issue meant the brand had to change too, so we rebuilt the store and moved the business to a new name and domain at the same time.

Every variant used to be its own product. Now shape, finish and boiler type are chosen in place, which fixed the shopping experience and the SEO together. The domain migration was handled without losing ground: organic sessions grew 28% across matched windows.

Ecommerce is what we do

It’s not a section of our services, it’s the core of what we’ve built our reputation on. We’ve launched ecommerce websites across a wide range of industries, and that experience shapes how we think about your store from the very first conversation.

You talk to the people doing the work

No account managers in the middle. From your first call to your launch day, you deal directly with the designers, developers and content writers building your site. Faster decisions, clearer communication, no misunderstandings.

We think beyond the build

A well-designed store that nobody finds isn’t much use to anyone. We build with SEO, speed and conversion in mind from day one, so your site is set up to perform from the moment it goes live.

Our clients don’t tend to leave

We think that says more than any award could. When an agency gets results and treats clients well, they stick around. We’re proud of the long-term relationships we’ve built and we work hard to keep earning them.

See what AI has to say about us

Don't take our word for it. Ask the machines. Each button opens a live AI with a pre-filled question about our ecommerce web design, so you can sanity-check everything on this page yourself.

Beyond the build

A store is just the start

The best ecommerce websites are launched, then grown. Because everything at designbox is in-house, the team that built your store can also fill it with customers.

Good questions

Questions we're asked most

Can't see yours? Ask us anything on a quick call, no obligation.

How much does an ecommerce website cost?
Every project is scoped individually based on what your business actually needs, so we don’t publish fixed prices. What we can say is that we’ll always give you an honest, transparent quote before anything gets started. The best first step is a short call so we can understand your requirements and give you a realistic figure.
How long does an ecommerce website take to build?
It depends on the size and complexity of the store, but most projects take between three and six months from kick-off to launch. We’ll confirm a realistic timeline with clear milestones during discovery, so you always know where things stand.
Should I choose WooCommerce or Shopify?
It depends on your products, your team and how you want to grow. WooCommerce suits large catalogues, trade areas and stores that need to work exactly your way. Shopify suits brands that want a fast, lean, reliable store. We’re partners with both, so our recommendation is always about what’s right for your business, not what’s easiest for us.
Can you migrate us from our existing platform?
Yes. If you’re moving from Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Wix or another platform, we handle the full migration. That includes your product data, customer records and existing SEO, so nothing gets lost in the move.
Do you have experience in our industry?
We’ve built ecommerce websites across a wide range of sectors, from fashion and homeware to trade and B2B. We’ll always do our homework on your market before we start designing, so the finished site works for your specific customers.
What do you need from us to get started?
Not as much as you might think. A kick-off call, access to your brand assets and a clear idea of what you want the site to achieve is enough to get the ball rolling. We’ll guide you through everything else.
Can the site handle a large product catalogue?
Yes. Whether you have 50 products or 5,000, we’ll make sure the site is structured in a way that’s easy to manage and easy for your customers to navigate, on WooCommerce or Shopify.
Will I own my ecommerce website?
Yes, completely. Your website is your digital asset, and you’ll have full ownership and control of it from day one.
What if something goes wrong after launch?
All of our ecommerce websites come with 30 days of post-launch support as standard. Beyond that, we offer ongoing care plans to keep your site fast, secure and up to date. If something needs fixing, you’ll always have someone to call.
