The outcome

WooCommerce, done properly

Anyone can bolt WooCommerce onto WordPress. The difference is in how the store is designed, how far it's built around the way you actually sell, and the fact that every part of it belongs to you. We obsess over all three.

Designed

Designed, never templated

Your store shouldn't look like a theme with your logo dropped in. Every WooCommerce store we build starts as a blank canvas and becomes a custom design around your products, your customers and your brand, then gets built as its own lean, fast theme.

Nothing your competitors can buy. A store that's yours alone, built to load fast and rank well from day one.

A WooCommerce store designed from scratch
No limits

Built around how you actually sell

Trade pricing for account customers. Product configurators. Quote requests beside the buy button. A checkout shaped to your exact process. Whatever your business needs, WooCommerce can do it, and when the right plugin doesn't exist, we design and build it ourselves. No workarounds, no third-party limitations, no "the platform doesn't allow that".

Custom plugins and custom integrations, built in-house, built how you need them.

Trade pricing and custom functionality in WooCommerce
Run & grow

Yours, forever, and connected to everything

WooCommerce is open source, so your store belongs to you: no monthly platform fees, no percentage of your sales, and no landlord who can change the rules. And behind the scenes we connect it to your EPOS and tills, stock, accounting and fulfilment, so a sale anywhere updates everything, everywhere. One stock pot, no double-typing, no overselling.

Own the asset, keep every penny of every sale, and run it all from one place.

Who it's for

Whatever you sell, however you sell it

Retail, trade or both: a great fashion store and a great parts catalogue are not the same store. We design every WooCommerce build around the way your product is bought, and who's buying it.

The process

How our WooCommerce web design process works

Five clear stages from first call to life after launch. You'll always know what's happening, what's next and who's doing it.

1

Discovery

designbox discovery stage of the process

Before anything gets designed, we get to know your business inside out, so every decision from here has a purpose.

  • Kick-off call to understand your goals, customers and competitors
  • Review of your existing site, what’s working and what isn’t
  • Sitemap agreed so we know exactly what we’re building
  • Project timeline confirmed with clear milestones
2

Design

designbox design stage of the process

We create a design built around your brand and your customers. You'll see and approve everything before we write a single line of code.

  • Wireframes to map the journey from landing page to checkout
  • Full visual design presented for your feedback
  • Two rounds of revisions included as standard
  • Final sign-off from you before we move to build
3

Build

designbox build stage of the process

Our developers bring the approved design to life. Every website we build is custom, fast and built to grow with your business.

  • Custom WooCommerce build from scratch, lean and fast
  • Fully responsive across all devices
  • Plugins vetted, custom development where it’s needed, integrations done properly
  • Tested across browsers and devices before you see it
4

Handover and training

designbox handover and training stage of the process

Before we go live, we make sure you and your team are completely comfortable running the store. No technical knowledge needed.

  • Walkthrough of your new store on a staging link before launch
  • Full training so your team can manage products, orders and content
  • Bespoke training videos provided for future reference
  • Any final amends completed before sign-off
5

Launch and beyond

designbox launch stage of the process

Go-live is just the beginning. We handle the technical side of the launch and stay on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.

  • Pre-launch checklist completed in full
  • Redirects and SEO migration handled to protect your existing rankings
  • 30 days of post-launch support included as standard
  • WooCommerce care plans to keep your store fast, secure and converting
What's possible

What we can build into your WooCommerce store

Every store is different, so every build is scoped around what yours actually needs. These are the kinds of things we can do for you with WooCommerce, and because we develop custom plugins and integrations in-house, the honest answer to "can it do this?" is almost always yes.

A custom WooCommerce theme

Designed from scratch around your brand and built lean. Nothing off the shelf, nothing your competitors are running.

Complex products, configured

Options, variations, personalisation and quantity breaks, made effortless however complicated your catalogue is.

Trade and B2B pricing

Account pricing, quote requests, minimum orders and pay-on-account, so trade customers buy the way trade customers buy.

Custom plugins, built for you

When the right plugin doesn’t exist, we design and develop it in-house. Your feature, built your way, without third-party limits.

Custom integrations and APIs

EPOS, ERP, suppliers, couriers, accounting: if it has an API, we can connect your store to it, cleanly and reliably.

No rent, no percentage

WooCommerce charges no monthly platform fee and takes no cut of your sales. The store is an asset you own, not a subscription you rent.

Our proven cart and checkout

We replace WooCommerce’s dated defaults with a system honed across hundreds of stores: quick, simple payment with Stripe, PayPal, Klarna and more.

Subscriptions built in

Subscribe-and-save on the products your customers reorder, with recurring revenue you keep every penny of.

Abandoned carts, recovered

Automatic recovery emails that bring shoppers back to a basket that’s exactly as they left it.

Shipping that works your way

Flat rate, free shipping, click and collect or carrier-calculated. Configured to match how you and your customers work.

Products and stock, easy to manage

Add, edit and organise products without technical knowledge. Stock updates automatically so you’re never caught short.

Orders and returns, all in one place

See every order as it comes in, process refunds and keep customers updated without switching systems.

Customer accounts and wishlists

Order history, saved details and one-click reordering, exactly what trade customers and regulars want.

Back-in-stock and pre-order alerts

Sold out doesn’t mean sale lost. Customers get notified the moment it’s back, and pre-orders capture demand early.

Gift vouchers

Sell digital gift cards that bring new customers to your store and let happy ones spread the word.

Search and filtering that finds it fast

Live search and layered filters that take customers from 4,000 SKUs to the right one in seconds.

Discounts, done properly

Codes, automatic discounts, bulk pricing and launch offers that lift orders without eroding your margin.

Upselling and cross-selling built in

Related products, add-ons and frequently-bought-together suggestions, built into your product pages and cart at the perfect moment, nudging every order a little higher.

Product bundles

Bundle products together at a better price, built natively into your WooCommerce catalogue. Bigger baskets for your customers, better margins for you.

Sell worldwide

Multi-currency, multilingual and local payment methods, so borders don’t cost you sales.

Security, hardened

Hardened logins, SSL, firewalls, daily backups and monitoring. Open source and properly protected.

Woo, but fast

Badly built WooCommerce is slow; ours isn’t. Lean custom themes and Google Cloud hosting deliver speed scores most stores can’t touch.

Plugins, governed

Only vetted plugins make it onto your store, and when the right one doesn’t exist, we build our own instead of settling.

Reviews doing the selling

Ratings and photo reviews collected automatically and shown exactly where they win the decision.

Analytics you can act on

Know which products, pages and channels drive revenue, with GA4 and tracking set up properly from day one.

A real team behind your store

Questions answered by people who know your build, not a ticket queue. Care plans that grow with you.

Feature spotlight

The cart WooCommerce should have come with

Here's some honesty: WooCommerce's default cart is its weakest link, dated, blocky and a place where sales go to die. So we don't use it. Every store we build gets our proven cart and checkout system instead: effortless to buy from, quick and simple payment, and upselling built in, so the ease of purchasing itself sets you apart from your competitors.

  • Integrated free shipping progress bar that encourages one more item
  • Customers make changes right from the cart, no page reloads
  • Order bumps at the perfect moment to increase average order values
  • Discount codes applied directly, so offers never cause drop-off

Recognised by the makers

Partnered with the people behind WooCommerce

designbox is one of the few UK agencies in the Woo Pro Agency Partner programme, run by Automattic, the company behind WooCommerce and WordPress. It's the platform's own makers vouching for the quality of our builds.

WooCommerce

Woo Pro Agency Partner

Partner agencies are vetted for the standard of their WooCommerce work and get direct access to the teams and resources behind the platform, from early feature access to expert support when it matters. We’re an Automattic Pro Agency Partner on the WordPress side too, and every store we build benefits from both.

Shopify

Fluent in the alternative

We’re also a Shopify Partner agency, building Shopify stores every month. That matters because it keeps our advice honest: when we recommend WooCommerce for your business, it’s a genuine recommendation based on how you sell, not the only thing we know how to build.

Case studies

Real businesses, real results

Every one of these started as a store that wasn't pulling its weight. Here's what a proper WooCommerce build changed, and what it did for the business.

Mermaids Swimwear

Mermaids Swimwear is a boutique retailer of high quality swimwear and holiday wear. The old storefront was holding the product back, so we rebuilt it and put a high-intent Google Ads strategy behind it to reach shoppers already ready to buy.

The combination is what made it work: a store that converts, and paid search pointed only at people close to purchasing. It returned 9.36 times the ad spend across the year, with revenue up 55%.

Power Hygiene

Power Hygiene lead the UK market in commercial and domestic cleaning supplies, with over 5,000 product lines. Their old store could not carry the scale of the operation, so we rebuilt it as a custom B2B platform designed around how trade buyers actually order.

The site is organised by industry as well as product, with recurring ordering, trade accounts and pricing built in. Search and paid work then took it further, including 264 mentions in Google AI overviews in a single month.

Quel Tap

AquaTaps sell instant boiling and filtered water taps direct to homeowners. Partway through the project a trademark issue meant the brand had to change too, so we rebuilt the store and moved the business to a new name and domain at the same time.

Every variant used to be its own product. Now shape, finish and boiler type are chosen in place, which fixed the shopping experience and the SEO together. The domain migration was handled without losing ground: organic sessions grew 28% across matched windows.

Ecommerce is what we do

Online stores aren’t a section of our services, they’re the core of our reputation. We’ve launched WooCommerce stores across dozens of industries, deeply enough that the team behind WooCommerce counts us among its Pro Agency Partners.

You talk to the people doing the work

No account managers in the middle. From your first call to your launch day, you deal directly with the designers, developers and content writers building your site. Faster decisions, clearer communication, no misunderstandings.

We think beyond the build

A well-designed store that nobody finds isn’t much use to anyone. We build with SEO, speed and conversion in mind from day one, so your site is set up to perform from the moment it goes live.

Our clients don’t tend to leave

We think that says more than any award could. When an agency gets results and treats clients well, they stick around. We’re proud of the long-term relationships we’ve built and we work hard to keep earning them.

Beyond the build

A WooCommerce store is just the start

The best WooCommerce stores are launched, then grown. Because everything at designbox is in-house, the team that built your store can also fill it with customers.

Good questions

Questions we're asked most

Can't see yours? Ask us anything on a quick call, no obligation.

How much does a WooCommerce website cost?
Every store is scoped individually around your products, your catalogue and the functionality you need, so we don’t publish fixed prices. What we can tell you is that we’ll always give you an honest, transparent quote before anything starts. The best first step is a short call so we can give you a realistic figure.
How long does a WooCommerce website take to build?
Most custom WooCommerce stores take between eight and sixteen weeks from kick-off to launch, depending on catalogue size and functionality. Stores with custom development or complex migrations can take longer. We’ll agree a clear timeline with milestones at the start.
Do you use pre-built themes or templates?
No. Every WooCommerce store we build is designed from scratch around your brand and built as its own lean, fast theme. Nothing off the shelf, and nothing your competitors are running.
Can you build custom features and plugins for WooCommerce?
Yes, and it’s one of the things that sets us apart. We don’t just stack third-party plugins: when your store needs something that doesn’t exist, we design and develop custom WordPress plugins and custom integrations built exactly how you need them, without the limitations of somebody else’s product.
Should I choose WooCommerce or Shopify?
It depends on your products, your team and how you want to grow, and we’re one of the few agencies that builds on both, so our advice is genuinely honest. WooCommerce suits large catalogues, trade and B2B pricing, custom functionality and businesses that want full ownership with no platform fees. Shopify suits brands that want a fast, low-maintenance store. We’ll recommend what’s right for your business, not what’s convenient for us.
Are there ongoing costs with WooCommerce?
WooCommerce itself charges no monthly subscription and takes no percentage of your sales. Your ongoing costs are hosting, care and any premium extensions your store genuinely needs, and we’re upfront about all of them before you commit. Over time, that ownership model usually works out significantly cheaper than rented platforms.
Isn’t the WooCommerce cart and checkout clunky?
Out of the box, honestly, yes: the default WooCommerce cart is dated and blocky, and it costs stores sales. That’s why we don’t use it. Every store we build gets our proven cart and checkout system instead, with quick simple payments, in-cart upselling and a buying experience that nurtures the sale rather than getting in its way.
Is WooCommerce slow?
Badly built WooCommerce stores are slow. Ours aren’t. A custom lean theme, disciplined plugins, optimised images and our Google Cloud hosting deliver speed scores most stores can’t touch, and speed is one of the first things we fix on stores we take over.
Can you migrate my store to WooCommerce?
Yes. We migrate stores to WooCommerce from Shopify, Magento, Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce, Etsy and more, moving your products, customers, orders and discount codes, protecting your search rankings with a full redirect plan, and keeping your current store selling until the moment we switch.
Can you take over or improve our existing WooCommerce store?
Yes. We regularly take on existing WooCommerce stores for redesigns, speed and conversion work, plugin clean-ups, custom development and ongoing care, whether we built the store originally or not.
Why choose designbox for WooCommerce web design?
Everything we build on WooCommerce is custom: bespoke store design, lean fast themes, and custom WooCommerce development where it counts, from trade and B2B pricing to product configurators, custom WordPress plugins and custom integrations with your EPOS, ERP, couriers and accounting. Because WooCommerce is open source, your store is an asset you own outright, with no monthly platform fees and no percentage of your sales going to a landlord. We handle WooCommerce migrations from Shopify, Magento, Wix, Etsy and more with rankings and revenue protected, and our in-house team delivers ecommerce SEO, Google Shopping, Meta ads and email marketing, plus the WooCommerce care plans that keep everything fast, secure and converting.
How should we compare WooCommerce web design agencies?
If you’re comparing WooCommerce agencies, the best way to judge us is our work, our clients and our partners. Browse our latest WooCommerce websites, drag through the before and after results, or ask us anything on a call, no obligation and no hard sell.
