Website audit

A website audit that tells you what is really going on.

A complete once-over of your site for £250 plus VAT. We go through everything, tell you straight what is broken, what works and where the opportunities are, then carry out two hours of fixes. No plan, no commitment, and not a sales document dressed up as a report.
  • A day of our team going through it by hand
  • Written report in 2 to 3 working days
  • Two hours of fixes on the end of it
£250 plus VAT · two hours of fixes included · no obligation to take a plan
A designbox website audit in progress, going through a client site by hand
What the audit covers

A full website health check, not a plugin scan.

Automated tools give you a score out of a hundred. We go through the site the way people who build and fix these every day would: the design and the experience as much as the code underneath.
How the audit works

Two calls, real people, about a week.

What a website audit costs

One price. Nothing held back.

An automated scan takes four minutes and tells you nothing you can act on. This takes us the best part of a day, and you end up with a plan you could hand to any developer, plus two hours of it already carried out.

Website audit FAQs

Everything you are probably wondering

What is a website audit?

A website audit is a structured review of an existing website to find what is broken, what is underperforming and what could be improved. Ours is a full website health check covering design and brand, user experience, conversion, functions and features, speed and Core Web Vitals, security, updates, backups, SEO and accessibility. It is carried out by hand by our team rather than generated by a tool, and it ends with a prioritised action list and an estimated time against every item.

Why do you charge for the audit when others do it free?

A free audit is a sales document. Somebody runs a tool, prints a score and calls you. Ours takes a day of real work from people who build and fix these sites, and it protects both sides: you are not signing up to a monthly plan for a site nobody has looked at, and we are not taking on a site we do not understand yet.

What actually happens on the two calls?

The onboarding call is 30 minutes before we start. We ask what the site is for, what you are trying to achieve and what is frustrating you, so we are auditing against your goals rather than a generic checklist. The completion call is after, where we walk you through the findings and the priority list so you can ask why, not just read a document.

How long does the whole thing take?

Two to three working days from the moment we have access, and about a week end to end including both calls. If we find something urgent, such as an active compromise, you hear from us the same day rather than waiting for the report.

Do I have to take a care plan afterwards?

No, and there is no obligation either way. You keep the report, the priority list and the two hours of fixes whatever you decide. On the completion call we will tell you what we would do next and why, and you choose from there.

Does the £250 come off a care plan if I take one?

No. The audit is a piece of work in its own right and takes the best part of a day, so it is charged separately from any plan. What you do get as a plan client is a free audit every year, and twice a year on Pro and Premium, so the site keeps being looked at properly rather than just maintained.

What if designbox built my site?

Then you skip the audit and go straight onto a plan. Clients on a plan get a free audit once a year, and twice a year on Pro and Premium, so the site keeps moving forward rather than just ticking over.

Will you change anything while you are in there?

Not without telling you. The audit itself is read-only. The two hours of fixes happen after you have seen the report and agreed what we should start with.

What access do you need?

WordPress admin and, ideally, hosting. If you cannot get hold of either, tell us on the form and we will work out what is possible. We have picked up plenty of sites where nobody knows the logins any more.

Which platforms can you audit?

Any of them. Design, user experience, conversion, content, functionality, speed, SEO and accessibility apply whatever the site is built on, and that is most of the audit. On WordPress and WooCommerce we can also get into the technical layer and carry out the two hours of fixes ourselves. On Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow or a bespoke build there is less we can touch directly, so that time goes into working out what to do about what we found: a rebuild scope, a migration plan, or a list your own developer can pick up. Same price, same day of our time.

Can you audit an ecommerce site?

Yes, and we test the whole buying journey rather than just the pages: product filters, cart, checkout steps, payment and the confirmation emails. Broken checkouts are the most expensive problem we find.

What do you charge by the hour?

Our standard rate is £100 an hour plus VAT. On a care plan or a package it drops to £80 an hour, and every plan includes monthly support time before you pay for any extra at all. The two hours of fixes in the audit are charged at nothing, they are part of the £250.

What are the terms?

The full website audit terms cover what is included, timings, access, cancellation and liability. You confirm them on the last step of the booking form, and they are worth two minutes of your time before you pay.

Can I go on a care plan afterwards?

If your site is WordPress or WooCommerce, yes. Our care plans run on our own hosting, so they are WordPress and WooCommerce only. On any other platform the audit still stands on its own, and if the answer turns out to be a rebuild we will scope that instead.

Website audit services for any platform

designbox runs a paid website audit service from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, for businesses across the UK. It is a full website health check carried out by the people who build and fix these sites every day, not a tool that prints a score. We go through the design, the user experience, the conversion path, the functionality, speed and Core Web Vitals, security, updates and backups, then write it up in plain English with a prioritised action list and an estimated time against every item. We audit sites on any platform. A WordPress website audit adds plugin health, theme and core versions, firewall rules and whether your backups actually restore, and on WordPress and WooCommerce we can carry out the two hours of fixes ourselves. On Shopify, Squarespace, Webflow or a bespoke build that time goes into scoping what to do next instead. A WooCommerce or Shopify ecommerce website audit adds the whole buying journey: product filters, cart, checkout steps, payment and confirmation emails. Broken checkouts and silent form failures are the most expensive things we find, and they rarely show up in an automated scan. The UX audit and conversion side matters just as much: how easy the site is to use on a phone, where people drop out, whether the calls to action earn attention, and which moments lose an enquiry. You get our view on what to fix first, and you choose what happens next. The audit is £250 plus VAT, takes two to three working days from the moment we have access, and includes a 30 minute onboarding call, a completion call and two hours of remedial work carried out by us. Time beyond that is £100 an hour, or £80 an hour on one of our WordPress maintenance and care plans, which run on our own hosting and are WordPress and WooCommerce only. If the site is on another platform and you are thinking about moving, see website migration, or website design if it is time for something new. Full terms are on the website audit terms page.
